Powerball Jackpot Climbs to $45,000,000

Monday, August 31st, 2009

The jackpot in America’s favorite lottery game continues to climb higher and higher. Even though the grand prize was not awarded Saturday evening, two lucky tickets in North Carolina (1), and Pennsylvania (1) matched all 5 white numbers with the Power Play and won $1 million cash each. This was a result of the new Power Play feature that turns any match 5 white ball win with the Power Play into a 5X multiplier and pushes the prize up to $1 million cash! Three other lucky tickets in Arizona (1), Rhode Island (1), and South Dakota (1) matched all 5 white ball numbers without the multiplier for a sensational $200,000 cash win on each. In addition, 517,720 tickets across the nation won a total of $6,737,740 in prizes.

Because no one correctly matched all six numbers in Saturday’s drawing the jackpot will grow to an estimated $45 million!

The cash option for the Wednesday, September 2nd drawing will be an estimated $22.8 million.

The numbers drawn Saturday night were 1, 20, 37, 52, 53 and the Powerball was 33. The Power Play multiplier was 3.

Mega Millions Fever Is Hot As The Jackpot Hits $252 Million

Saturday, August 22nd, 2009

“The hottest ticket in town is Mega Millions. There was no jackpot winner in Friday’s Mega Millions drawing, so Americans woke up to a jackpot that soared to an estimated $252 million for the Tuesday, August 25, 2009, drawing.

A total of 1,964,485 tickets from coast to coast won prizes in the Friday, August 21, Mega Millions drawing. The winning numbers were: 9-38-44-48-49 and the Mega Ball number was 13.

Of all those winning tickets, 24 were just shy of hitting the estimated $207 million jackpot. They did so by matching the first five numbers and only missing the Mega Ball number. Those tickets were sold in California (4), Georgia (3), Michigan (2), New Jersey (6), New York (3), Ohio (2), Texas (2) and Virginia (2).

This jackpot has been growing since July 7, when Mega Millions had its most recent jackpot winner. The jackpot has now rolled 13 times without a winner. The odds of winning the jackpot are approximately one in 176 million. The odds of winning any of the Mega Millions prizes are approximately 1 in 40.

Mega Millions holds the record for the largest jackpot in U.S. history. On March 6, 2007, the Mega Millions jackpot grew to $390 million. There were two winning tickets in that drawing: in Dalton, Georgia and Woodbine, New Jersey.

Mega Millions is played in 12 states: California, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Texas, Virginia and Washington”

Martyn and Sandra White – £10,784,075

Thursday, August 13th, 2009

A couple from Luton are beating their post-holiday blues by banking a massive £10,784,075 Lotto Double Rollover jackpot from Wednesday 8th April’s draw.

Martyn White and wife Sandra were finishing off their packing for a week-long Easter break to Italy when they learnt of their National Lottery win on-line. But it took them a while to realise just how much they had won and nearly two weeks before they could hold the cheque for themselves! Martyn explains:

“It was Easter Saturday and we were leaving for our flight at lunchtime so I switched on my computer first thing to double check our flights and to see whether there were any delays. Whilst looking I saw there was an email from the National Lottery saying I was a winner but I assumed we had won a tenner again. I thought lovely – that will go in the holiday kitty. I wasn’t going to check but intrigue got the better of me and I logged onto my account. It took me ages to spot the amount and even then I thought the email was wrong – £10.7m was the jackpot prize but how much have I won? Next I checked the winning numbers and recognised them all… it began to dawn on me that it wasn’t a mistake and that we really had won!”

Still suspicious it was a prank of some sort, Martyn decided to check the lottery results on six other news and information web sites before he called Camelot to see if it was for real. Later in the morning he watched the Wednesday night National Lottery Draw Show on Catch-up TV and it finally began to sink in. However as they were due to leave for the airport in just a few hours time the money would have to wait for Martyn and Sandra!

Martyn, a sales manager for a vehicle electronics company, hopes to take early retirement whilst Sandra plans to swap her pastoral role at her local school for that of interior designer once they have found their dream home. “We are hoping to buy something nearby as we have lived here all our life and have lots of friends locally. I have always wanted a swimming pool and can’t wait to start planning the interior decoration of our new pad when we find it.”
